Authentic Irish, that's what we are, genuine Irish druids of the present time. The Order of Druids in Ireland, the ODI, was reformed on the Royal and Ancient Hill of Tara on Midsummer Day 1993 when the Marble City Grove of Druids from Kilkenny joined with Druid Ian Carter Long and the Belfast Grove of Druids in Peace and Goodwill at a time the North was troubled. Onward in cooperation we progressed until 700 druids and druidesses, as covered in all Irish media, assembled on the Hill of Tara on Midsummer day 1997 to conclude the Peace of Tara, demanding that the IRA finally cease fire and negotiate with the Irish and British governments for peace. This finally occurred with the Good Friday Agreement. That was the power of the ODI in action under its leader, the elected Archdruid of Tara and Ireland,Michael McGrath of Kilkenny city. Michael is of a Druidic clan, the Clanna Bui of Portlairge of the MacCraith of the Deise. Right from the start we embraced our separated brethern of the North on the Hill of Tara. Right from the start we opposed bigotry and discrimination. It is important to note too that we have had powerful women druids - even two lady archdruids along the way! And we have always been gender fluid - with even a druidic brother called The Fluid Druid. Unfortunately we have had our problems too, with deeply divisive people, but that's all now in the past. Last Tuesday, Midsummer Day 2022, we had a lovely day out again on Tara with scrumptious food enjoyed in our friend Michael Maguire's restaurant on the Hill and chats with everybody present as I was introduced all around by the ODI Chief Scribe John O'Connell of Killorglin in Kerry, living in The Liberties of Dublin. Thanks for reading so far, Michael McGrath, Druid of Ireland.
