Bank holiday Monday. Though not with the ODI druids, there will be ritual activities on Tara by Wicca na h-Eireann to celebrate the Festival of Lughnasadh, they have asked us to announce. Pictured: Our old friend Sid Rawle who is sadly departed this last few years. Sid was known as "The King of the Hippies" , and led the Battle of the Beanfield at Stonehenge back in 1984. He was a dear friend, like a brother to Archdruid McGrath of the ODI,since they lived in Chalk Farm, London , for a time back in 1974 while helping with the North London Squatters Federation along with Piers Corbyn. Piers is brother of Jeremy Corbyn, Director of the London Weather Station today and one of the more famous "climate deniers"- which is the greatest reason we love him! He has also been arrested recently for anti-Covid lockdown activities in Hyde Park. Sid & his people came over to Dornish Island, Clew Bay,when given use of the island by John Lennon. He loved Ireland and preferred Irish company back in London. Sid was a gentle anarchist. He and Michael McGrath were in the Diggers movement together in London, and also with BIT Information Services there. This will also be a topic on Tara at Lughnasadh to see how such can be adapted and fitted into modern Ireland as a provision of alternative services, to go under the general heading of "Alternative Ireland". Mr.McGrath will talkon all of this, from his earlier experiences with Sid in the London of the early 70s when flower power was in and alternative lifestyles flourished. PHOTO: SID RAWLE.
